PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for separating a gas made from a soluble aromatic polyimide comprising a specific repeating unit, having improved gas separation capability, particularly improved capability of separating a hydrogen gas and a methane gas or a nitrogen gas, or the like; and a gas separation method employing the same. SOLUTION: The asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for separating a gas is made from a soluble aromatic polyimide comprising a specific repeating unit constituted of a tetracarboxylic acid component comprising a diphenylhexafluoropropane structure and a biphenyl structure and of a diamine component comprising a diaminodibenzothiophene, a diaminodibenzothiophene=5,5-dioxide and a diaminothioxanthene-10,10-dione, or a diaminothioxanthene-9,10,10-trione, a 3,3'-diaminodiphenylsulfone and an m-phenylenediamine.
