PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which never causes an arm portion to be enlarged even when the swing width of a needle bar is increased and attains reliable capture of a needle thread loop. SOLUTION: The needle bar 21 swings around a virtual straight line extended from the center of the shuttle shaft 63 of a horizontal shuttle 28. Consequently, the needle eye 31 of a sewing needle 22 always straight faces the center of the shuttle shaft 63. As a result, irrespective of the right position or the left position of the needle bar 21, the distance between the sewing needle 22 and the point 65 becomes constant, the angle formed in the needle eye 31 by the direction of the needle thread loop and the point 65 also becomes constant, the needle thread can be surely captured. The swing of the needle bar 21 is transmitted to a needle bar crank rod shaft 83 after the amount of a horizontal swing is reduced via a needle bar link 85. Consequently, even if the swing width of the needle bar 21 is increased, the movement distance of the needle bar crank rod 83 sliding with a support portion 81 becomes shorter than the swing width of the needle bar 21.
