发明名称 Improved method and apparatus for liquid processing of surfaces
摘要 871,081. Treating wire electrolytically. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. Dec. 3, 1957 [Dec. 3, 1956; Nov. 20, 1957], No. 37677/57. Class 41. A method of electrolytically treating the surface of an elongated material, e.g. a wire 23, comprises placing an area of the surface of the wire in contact with a liquid electrolyte near at least one opening 41 in a cell 39 below the normal liquid level and through which the wire may be passed, preventing by aspiration the loss of electrolyte escaping through the hole 41, and continuously moving the area with respect to the opening 41 so as to bring a new zone of the surface into the electrolyte. Aspiration is provided by passing a gas through a tube 44 from a source at 49, the gas returning electrolyte to the cell 39 at 48 and simultaneously agitating the electrolyte in the cell. The wire 23 is passed back and forth through the cell 39, the tube 44 being suitably apertured, and through washing tubes 72, 74 and drying tubes 73, 75. Liquid and gas are supplied respectively to the tubes 72, 74 and 73, 75, operation of pumps 91, 93, 100, 102 being synchronized with a reversible motor 104 which moves the wire 23 through a pulley 11 so that the appropriate washing and drying tube is supplied with fluid according to the direction of movement of the wire 23. Current is supplied to the cell by an electrode 43 and to the wire 23 by the pulley 71, and a switch 79 may be automatically opened on completion of each passage through the cell 39. A switch 110 controls all the other circuits, and may be automatically operated. Various modifications of cell shape are described. In one, a wire or strip was passed vertically down through an inverted conductive cone into which electrolyte is led, air entering upwardly through the apex of an outer insulating concentric cone to prevent escape of electrolyte. In an example, nickel wire was thinned by passage 150 times at 1.25 cm. per second through a cell containing magnesium perchlorate in alcohol in proportion of 60 gms. per litre. The temperature was 20‹ C., employing a stainless steel cathode 43 at a current density of 0.5 amps. per sq. cm. A shaped electrode may be employed to impart a desired shape to material being treated. The method is applicable to plating wire or strip as well as removing metal therefrom.
