Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent element having excellent luminous efficiency and durability. Specifically disclosed are: a charge transport material comprising a compound represented by general formula (Cz-1), wherein the ratio of an absorption intensity area of a specific halogen-containing impurity to the total absorption intensity area of the charge transport material is 0.000 to 0.10% inclusive when the content of the impurity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography at a measurement wavelength of 254 nm; and an organic electroluminescent element which contains the charge transport material in an organic layer thereof. (In general formula (Cz-1), R1 to R5 independently represent a specific atom or group; and n1 to n5 independently represent a specific integer.)
