<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element for an optical pickup, prevented from a deterioration of its characteristics due to a temperature without an increase in the mass; so as to provide good optical characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element for an optical pickup has: an objective lens 1 for focusing light flux; an aberration correction means for correcting aberration; and a holder for fixing relative positions of the objective lens 1 and the aberration correction means. The aberration correction means has a plurality of aberration correction elements 2 and 3 including a correction element 3 having negative power. The holder has: a first holder 32 for holding at least the aberration correction element 3 having the negative power; and a second holder 31 for holding at least the objective lens 1.
