<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document image generating apparatus, a document image generating method and a computer program, wherein a supplementary explanation can be given to be viewed with fine alignment between lower or upper lines of a phrase composed of words or a collocation. <P>SOLUTION: For a word "giant" including characters included neither in specific characters (under) nor specific characters (upper) which respectively store characters [g, j, p, q, y] each of which has a shape projected downward from a base line and characters [', "] separated upward from the base line, an average value YBav of the Y coordinates of lower ends of characters excluding [g] is set as the Y coordinate of the lower end of the word. For a word [jpy] including only characters included in the specific characters (under), a value YBav obtained by adding a fixed value to the average value YBav0 of the Y coordinates of lower ends of respective characters is set as the Y coordinates of lower ends of respective characters.
