PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for attaching/detaching a rod drive of a pile driver, which enables drilling operations to be performed even in a place with strict empty head height limitation by shortening a leader, without greatly changing a basic constitution of the pile driver. SOLUTION: In this method for attaching/detaching the rod drive of the pile driver, the rod drive 24, the upper end of which is fitted with a swivel joint 26, is attached to a rotary drive unit 19 which is ascendably/descendably provided in the leader 17 of the pile driver 11; and the drilling operations are performed by connecting the drilling rod 27 to the lower end of the rod drive. When the rod drive 24 is attached to/detached from the rotary drive unit 19 while being lifted by a wire 29 delivered from a top sheave block 22, the rod drive is put into an inclined state by lifting a position deviating from the axis line of the rod drive, so that the swivel joint and the top sheave block cannot interfere with each other.
