PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is configured to be ordinarily applicable for monochromatic images occupied by most of output originals, and can output color images as truly necessary, and thereby, in which the unnecessary density adjustment and displacement correction of each color are not performed, the occurrence of unnecessary toner consumption and adjustment time are prevented, and also, unit deterioration is prevented, and thereby color images can be efficiently formed. SOLUTION: A mode switch 60 supported by a shaft 66 on an apparatus side plate 62 can be set to a power-off mode position, a monochrome mode position or a full-color mode position. When being set to the monochrome mode position shown in Fig.4, connection terminals 70a and 70b are electrically connected to each other by a conductive part 68, power is supplied only to a monochromatic image forming unit (BW image forming system) necessary for monochrome mode printing, and power supply to a part (color image forming unit=FC image forming system) that is necessary to form an image in a mode other than the monochrome mode is interrupted. In the monochrome mode, the apparatus is configured not to perform displacement adjustment of each color, and the density adjustment of images other than a black image, or the like.
