<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a side airbag device suppressing the loss of a gas when an airbag deploys normally, and suppressing the excessive rise of the gas pressure in the airbag when the airbag fails to deploy normally. <P>SOLUTION: In the side airbag device 10, the airbag 20 is formed with a vent hole 48 in the rear side in the fore-and-aft direction of a seatback 18, and in the region opposing to a part of a side (side-door side) separating from the seatback frame, in an outer peripheral surface of a diffuser 28. When the airbag 20 deploys normally, the diffuser 28 narrows (or blocks in certain circumstances) a discharge passage to the vent hole 48. On the other hand, when normal deployment of a shoulder chamber 38 is blocked by an arm 14A of a seated occupant 14, the gas pressure in a chest chamber 40 rises, thereby pressing the diffuser 28 radially inward, so as to expand (open) the discharge passage to the vent hole 48. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
