PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve attaching/detaching operability of a sheet cassette by moving a sheet stacking plate up and down in accordance with the attachment/detachment of the sheet cassette to a device body. SOLUTION: The sheet feeder for feeding a sheet from a sheet cassette includes: a sheet cassette having a rockable intermediate plate 24 for stacking the sheets, springs 26a, 26b for biasing the intermediate plate 24, an arm 28 that moves to a first position where the intermediate plate 24 is lowered against the biasing of the springs 26a, 26b and a second position where the intermediate plate 24 is raised by the biasing of the springs 26a, 26b to rock the intermediate plate 24, and a toggle mechanism for biasing the arm 28 to either the first position or the second position; a device body to which the sheet cassette is detachably attached; and an engaging means engaging with the arm 28 of the sheet cassette to rock the arm 28 when the sheet cassette is attached to or detached from the device body.
