摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer capable of being safely restored without having to call service personnel if the size of a backfire phenomenon is small in spite of its occurrence. SOLUTION: The flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer 1 includes a light source 8 for emitting measuring light to a measurement sample atomized by flame 5, a measuring light detector 13 for detecting the intensity of the measuring light transmitted tough the measurement sample, a discharger 31 having both of a discharge pipe 31a capable of discharging an unatomized measurement sample from the internal space of a chamber 15 and storing a first set quantity V<SB>1</SB>of liquid and a discharge opening 31b capable of discharging a quantity of liquid exceeding the first set quantity V<SB>1</SB>from the discharge pipe 31a, and a controller 20. The flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer 1 includes a liquid quantity detector 32 for detecting the quantity V<SB>2</SB>of liquid discharged from the discharger 31 when a backfire phenomenon has occurred in the internal space of the chamber 15. The controller 20 determines the size of the backfire phenomenon which has occurred on the basis of the quantity V<SB>2</SB>of liquid detected by the liquid quantity detector 32.
