PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for improving the accuracy of shading compensation and improving the quality of the formed image. SOLUTION: A rotating body 310, equipped with a white reference surface 32 and a cleaning member 31 on a surface, is provided at a position facing a reading position 306 by a CMOS sensor 303, interposing a reading glass 302. To obtain a correction coefficient for shading correction, rotation of the rotating body 310 is controlled so that the white reference surface 32, the cleaning member 31, and the white reference surface 32 come to a position that faces the reading glass 302 in order. Thus, the white reference surface 32 is scanned, before and after the cleaning operation. The correction coefficient is then calculated, by using the maximum value of two reading values (the value having higher luminance) regarding the same pixel. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
