The electronic lock has an input device for feeding an input code, by which the lock is unlocked, where the lock is designed in such a way that the lock is unlocked by another code different from the former code. An alarm is released by feeding the latter code. A silent alarm is released by feeding latter code. The lock is opened with multiple such codes different from former code for unlocking. Each code is assigned to certain alarm signal. The code latter has an assignment of numbers and letters according to the standard ITU-T E.161. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electronic lock.
