The method involves transmitting information concerning delivery of a mail (4), and transmitting a postal address (3) of a receiver (7) to a service provider (9) by a carrier (5) of the mail. A communication address i.e. phone number (11), for the postal address is provided by the service provider, and the information is transmitted to the communication address of the receiver as short message service (SMS) (12) or voice message. A telephone connection is established between the carrier of the mail and the receiver by the service provider. An independent claim is also included for a system for enabling communication between a carrier of a mail and its addressee.
