The method involves receiving a request to modify a debit value based on an amount. A new debit value is calculated by modifying the debit value based on the amount. A positive whole number or absolute difference in values is determined according to a function expressing the modification of the new debit value relative to the debit value. A control value is modified by executing a one-way function on the control value at number of times equal to the absolute difference in values when the absolute difference in values is non-zero. An independent claim is also included for a prepaid device comprising a unique number. |
