FIELD: metallurgy. ^ SUBSTANCE: multi-layer coating is applied by vacuum-plasma method. First, a lower layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium and silicon is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 99.31-99.56, silicon 0.44-0.69. Further, there is applied an intermediate layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, silicon and zirconium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 83.3-87.94, silicon 0.26-0.50, zirconium 11.8-16.2 and there is applied an upper layer consisting of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, silicon and zirconium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 82.92-87.58, silicon 0.62-0.88, zirconium 11.8-16.2. Three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane apply layers of coating. The first and second cathodes are made out of alloy of titanium and silicon and are arranged opposite to each other. The third cathode is made complex out of titanium and zirconium and is set between the first and second cathodes. Also, a lower layer is applied with the first and second cathodes; the intermediate layer is applied with the first and third cathode, while the upper layer is applied with the second and third cathodes. ^ EFFECT: increased operability of cutting tool. ^ 1 tbl |
