The invention relates to a hydroenergy generating plant and method of generating hydroenergy wherein a structure (1) comprising a reservoir (7) having an inner volume is provided in a body of water (11). The reservoir (7) is arranged at least partly below a surface (2) of the body of water. Potential energy is stored by removing water from the reservoir during off-peak periods. During high peak periods water is led from the body of water (11) into the reservoir (7), and at the same time energy is recovered from the energy of the water flowing into the reservoir with e.g. a turbine and an electric generator coupled to the turbine.
