FIELD: chemistry. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in electrochemical, instrument making, machine making and metallurgical industries, as well as in leather production, where chromium (III) compounds are used. In order to realise the method, waste water is treated with magnesium-containing material consisting of magnesium carbonate (51.62-52.84%) and magnesium hydroxide (46.13-47.28%). The material is crushed to grain size between 3 and 10 mm. Complete removal of chromium (III) ions from the waste water takes place during phase contact for 20 to 30 minutes.
