Class 52(2) The Specification describes a reclining chair including a seat, a back-rest and a leg-rest and various lazy-tong mechanisms for projecting the leg-rest as the backrest is tilted to reclining position. As shown in Fig. 1, a back-rest 16 and seat 22 are pivoted at 18 to a base 10 and the legrest 58 is carried by a pivot 62 and a pivoted link 66 on the front of a lazy-tong linkage 40, 44, 30, 32. The inner end of link 40 is pivoted at 42 to the seat and the inner end of link 44 is pivoted to the foot of a link 48 pivoted at 50 to the base 10. As the back-rest is rocked rearwards, a downward extension 20 thereof moves link 52 forwards to swing link 48 about pivot 50. This causes the lazy-tong linkage to raise the seat and extend the leg-rest. 'In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the back-rest and seat are formed as an integral unit. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the back-rest and seat, again formed as an integral unit, have the lowest part of the downward extension pivoted to the base and the link 48 is formed as a bell crank, the upper arm being linked to the upper part of the extension. 'In a further modification, Fig. 2, link 144 of the lazy-tong linkage is pivoted at 157 to the foot of extension 120 and is constrained to move in the desired path by a link 148 pivoted to the base at 150. Stops may be provided to limit the pivoting in the sitting and reclining positions, and means may be provided for locking the parts in adjusted position. |
