876,390. Magnetic recording &c. heads; supporting. TELEREGISTER CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 22, 1958], No. 28624/59. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XIX] A recording or heading head is movable into registry with one of a number of tracks by the operation of a combination of mechanically shiftable units, each unit being movable to two positions, and movements of said combination of units being cumulative. The upper and lower surfaces of a stack of magnetic discs co-operate with sets of reading and recording heads, one head to eight tracks. The heads are movable on guide rails by the mechanism 82, Fig. 2, into any selected one of 32 positions. The mechanism 82 comprises five casings 84-88 connected one to another by rods 115, Fig. 3, so that the effective length of the mechanism can be varied whenever one of the cams 110 is rotated through 180 degrees. The effective throws of successive cams 110 are arranged according to the binary scale, and the cams 110 are controlled by solenoids subjected to binary inputs. An electrical circuit checks that a new command has been carried out and brings up an alarm in the case of failure. Detailed modifications are described including electrostatic or mechanical storage and reference is made to U.S.A. Specification 2,587,532. |
