Punching device and throat plate for a sewing machine

The punching or felting device 1 comprises a needle holder for several punching needles which can be fastened to a needle bar of a sewing machine, and a press pad which can be fastened to a pressure shaft of sewing machine. The press pad is formed as the sole 35 of a body 33 which encompasses the needles as a finger protector and is fastened at the pressure shaft of a sewing machine via a carrier 3. The vertical position of the press pad relative to the carrier can be adjusted by an adjustment screw 15 to the thickness of the textiles/work pieces to be punched. The screw 15 can be turned via a hand wheel 17. The thread of the screw 15 may engage an internal thread of a sheath 21 secured against rotation relative to the carrier and which is encompassed by a spring 25 located between the screw 15 and the carrier 3. The body 33 may be transparent and may be in the form of a frustum or truncated pyramid. The arrangement may further include a throat plate with a top surface for supporting the work to be punched and having holes 51 for the punching needles. The holes are axially extended from the bottom surface of the plate so as to prevent matting of the punched material underneath the plate.
