In a method of removing dust from dustcontaining gases by entraining in the gases water containing suspended solid particles, the water leaving the dust-removing plant is passed through a line 4 to an outlet 5 where it is split into two streams by an adjustable dividing plate 13, one being discharged into a tank 1 and the other into a tank 2, the stream fed to the tank 2 being diluted with water to adjust its content of solid particles and returned to the dust-removing plant as the liquid to be entrained in the gas. Liquid in the tank 1 may be freed from solids in a settling tank 11 and the clarified water used as the water added to the tank 2. The position of the dividing plate 13 may be automatically controlled by a device 14 responsive to e.g. the content of solid particles in the water in the line 4.
