PURPOSE: A traffic lane discernment apparatus is provided to allow drivers to easily recognize even traffic lanes where the headlamp lights of vehicles hardly reach. CONSTITUTION: A traffic lane discernment apparatus comprises vehicle detection sensors(80) and a vehicle discernment unit. The vehicle detection sensors are installed at regular intervals on the road or surrounding facilities and detect running vehicles from different points. The vehicle discernment unit discriminates traffic lanes located ahead of the vehicles from the out put signal of one of the vehicle detection sensors. The vehicle discernment unit comprises lighting units(10) and a controller(90) which controls the operation of the lighting units to illuminate the road out of the range of vehicle headlight.
