PURPOSE: A composition for improving stem cell ability of nerve stem cells, containing astaxanthin is provided to replace conventional embryonic stem cells with nerve stem cells. CONSTITUTION: A composition for improving stem cell ability of nerve stem cells contains 0.001-100 weight% of astaxanthin. A method for improving stem cell ability of nerve stem cells comprises a step of treating astaxanthin to the nerve stem cells. The treatment amount of astaxanthin is 0.1-100 ng/ml, 1-50 ng/ml, or 1-20 ng/ml.
