FIELD: metallurgy. ^ SUBSTANCE: multi-layer coating is applied by vacuum-plasma procedure. First, a lower layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium and zirconium is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 89.0-92.0, zirconium 8.0-11.0. Further, there is applied an intermediate layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, zirconium and molybdenum at their ratio, wt %: titanium 88.5-92.0, zirconium 4.0-6.0, molybdenum 4.0-5.5 and there is applied an upper layer consisting of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, zirconium and molybdenum at their ratio, wt %: titanium 78.5-84.0, zirconium 12.0-16.0, molybdenum 4.0-5.5. Three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane apply layers of coating. The first and second cathodes are made complex out of titanium and zirconium and are arranged opposite to each other, while the third cathode is made complex of titanium and molybdenum and is set between the first and second cathodes. The lower layer is applied with the first and second cathodes, the intermediate layer is applied with the first and third cathodes, and the upper layer is applied with the second and the third cathodes. ^ EFFECT: increased operability of cutting tool. ^ 1 tbl |
