PURPOSE: A device and method for determining reliability of decoded data in a communication system are provided to determine whether restored data is reliable using a survivor path metric value. CONSTITUTION: The LLR(Log Likelihood Ratio) value of received data is inputted to an adder(101) and a TBCC decoder(107) respectively. A TBCC decoder outputs a survivor path metric value(120) and decoded data(130). The adder calculates the sum of the absolute values of inputted LLR values. The sum of the absolute values of the calculated LLR values is outputted to a multiplier(103).
