There is disclosed a method of preparing medical devices such as catheters and balloons involving forming the medical devices from a thermoplastic polymer composition comprising a melt mixture product of at least one terminally reactive polymer and a chain extender. The chain extender comprises a bis-lactam compound, a bis-oxazoline compound, a bis-oxazine compound, or a modified polyamide chain extender. In some embodiments the medical devices so formed exhibit improvements in properties such as burst strength, fatigue resistance, flexibility, durability, impact resistance, puncture resistance, and/or kink-resistance. |
