In a suction filter apparatus including a disc 4, or discs, suction is maintained through a hollow shaft 2 and pipe 10 for the whole rotation of the filter disc, and knives or scrapers 11 set close to the faces of the disc or discs, on the side of the apparatus at which the filter member enters the slurry in a bath 1, Fig. 2 (not shown), are used to remove an outer layer of the filter cake. The knives 11 are provided above the level of the slurry in the bath and the slurry is also pumped on to the faces of the discs through perforated pipes 13 situated above the slurry and below the knives.
