<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that easily and supplies a proper amount of air to an installed lamp even when at least one of a plurality of available lamps is not installed, and to provide a method for cooling lamps installed in the projector. <P>SOLUTION: The projector includes: an air supply fan 102 which supplies air to the plurality of lamps; a duct 104 whose one side is connected to the lamp, and which has an air supply port for supplying the air from the air supply fan to the lamp; and a shutter 160 which is provided in the air supply port 105, and moves in contact with the lamp when the lamp is installed at a lighting position or removed from the lighting position. When the lamp is installed at the lighting position, the shutter enters first mode to open the air supply port. When the lamp is removed from the lighting position, the shutter enters second mode to close the air supply port in comparison with the first mode while providing an opening in the air supply port.
