PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting cable capable of forming a twisting structure even with the use of a plurality of cable cores, and to provide a direct-current power transmission method utilizing the superconducting cable. SOLUTION: The superconducting cable 40 is configured such that two strips of cable cores 41 having a superconducting conductor layer 44 and an outer superconducting layer 46 in a coaxial state and a strip of refrigerant tube 42 are twisted and housed in a heat insulation tube 7. The superconducting cable 40 can be used for direct-current power transmission and alternating-current power transmission such as bipolar power transmission and unipolar power transmission. For instance, the unipolar power transmission can be carried out by using the superconducting conductor layer 44 fitted at the both cores 41 as a going line and using outer superconducting layer 46 fitted at the both cores 41 as a return line. The superconducting cable 40 makes one of the three strips of a conventional superconducting cable a member (a refrigerant tube 42) not at all using a superconducting material, so that it is easy to be twisted.
