PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform printing by performing optimal image processing corresponding to a subject when printing image data photographed by a digital camera or the like with a printer. SOLUTION: Image data are acquired (step s1), and whether it is an automatic selection mode or not is determined (step s2). If it is a manual selection mode, setting contents of a user are determined (step s3) and print processing is performed after performing image processing according to an instruction of the user (steps s7, s8). Meanwhile, if it is determined as the automatic selection mode, it is determined whether or not imaging mode information set by a camera is contained in an image file (step s4) and if contained, print processing is performed after performing image processing corresponding to the imaging mode information (steps s7, s8). If the imaging mode information is not contained, an imaging mode is determined from imaging parameters of the camera and information representing features of a subject included in actual image data (step s6), and print processing is performed after performing image processing using a result of the determination (steps s7, s8).
