PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display system which is suitable for displaying a road map in which updated contents are reflected, while reducing the processing load. SOLUTION: The map display apparatus includes a map storage means for storing map data, having a first road layer controlling a road network with nodes and links; a road data acquisition means for acquiring the road data of a second road layer controlling another road which is not included in the road network as an image, in which the road data holds at least two points within the image, in connection with coordinates corresponding to map data as meta information; an image generation means for generating a road network image by drawing the road network of the first road layer; a map-image superimposing means for superimposing the image of the second road layer on the road network image, by using the coordinates attached as the meta information; and a display means for displaying the superimposed map image on a predetermined display screen.
