Disclosed is an operation method for mechanically stirring chrome-containing molten iron, which significantly improves the life of the "rotary body" consisting of stirring blades and an axial rod integral with each other. Specifically disclosed is an operation method for mechanically stirring chrome-containing iron, performed in a smelting process which mechanically stirs chrome-containing iron contained in a smelting container by use of stirring blades having a vertical rotational axis, said smelting container having an inner wall surface with a circular horizontal cross-section about the vertical central axis of the container, said stirring blades being integral with a refractory-covered axial rod and rotating about the central axis of the axial rod, wherein, at each mixing charge, said operation method selectively switches at regular or irregular intervals between the "concentric stirring mode" in which the iron is stirred with the rotational axis of the stirring blades being coincident with the central axis of the container, and the "eccentric stirring mode" in which the iron is stirred with the rotational axis of the stirring blades being displaced from the central axis of the container. |
