PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an array of single molecules, and a method for detecting a target analyte in a sample.

SOLUTION: This invention relates to: (a) a sample containing molecules of the target analyte in some concentration, and an array including at least 1,000 positions having respectively a volume each position of which is specified between 10 atto-liter to 50 pico-liter; and (b) a method including contact between the array and the sample so that a ratio of the molecule of the target analyte to each position of the array becomes smaller than 1:1, in order to manufacture the array including the positions containing single molecules.
