PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating cooker capable of ensuring safety by stopping heating by accurately detecting that a user starts heating without putting a heating pan by mistake. SOLUTION: In this heating cooker, a temperature of a part 19 free from temperature rise of the heating pan, is detected by an infrared ray sensor 12 when the heating pan 7 to which a high frequency heating element 18 is attached, is loaded in a heating chamber 2 and high frequency is generated by a high frequency generating means 3 for heating, but when the heating pan is not loaded, the infrared ray sensor detects a temperature of a bottom surface of the heating chamber, raised due to generation of high frequency in an empty state, thus a pan detecting section 15 can determine the presence or absence of the heating pan on the basis of magnitude of the temperature rise, and the output of the high frequency generating means is stopped to ensure safety when the absence of the heating pan is detected.
