PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device, favorably removing foreign matters fixed to an opposite grid electrode of a discharge wire. SOLUTION: The charging device is equipped with: a discharge wire extending in a predetermined direction; a counter electrode including a grid electrode and a pair of shield electrodes, and having a U-shaped section opposite to the discharge wire; a frame supporting the discharge wire and the counter electrode; and a cleaning means 200 for cleaning the counter electrode by moving in the extending direction of the discharge wire in a sliding contact with the counter electrode. The cleaning means 200 is equipped with: a cleaning member (a film 220) having a front end part 221 brought into sliding contact with the grid electrode 121; and a support member 210 supporting the cleaning member with a gradient to the extending direction and in the state of being bent as viewed from the end side, and reciprocatable in the extending direction.
