<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately identify, with high processing efficiency, document image data containing an inverted character area, a character area in which inverted characters and non-inverted characters coexist, a character area in which a background color or a character color is not uniform, and the like. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus has: an attribute determiner that uses a block having a predetermined number of pixels as a processing unit to determine whether a character is included as an attribute of the block; a connected area extractor that extracts a connected area connected sequentially with the same pixel characteristics, among pixels in the block; and a foreground/background determiner that determines a foreground/background determination method. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
