摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic tool individually detecting a short-circuited fuel injector, and to provide a method of operating the diagnostic tool. SOLUTION: A method for specifying the individual short-circuited fuel injectors (12a, 12b) existing in an injector bank of an engine with a plurality of the fuel injectors (12a, 12b) respectively having piezoelectric actuators (16a, 16b) and relevant injector selecting switches (SQ1, SQ2) constituting a part of an injector driving circuit (30), includes the respective steps of: (i) closing the relevant injector selecting switch (SQ1) of one fuel injector (12a) and selecting the fuel injector; (ii) determining a fault current passing through current detector (35, R<SB>WHF</SB>) relevant to the selected injector; (iii) repeating the steps (i) and (ii) with respect to each of the plurality of the fuel injectors by selecting each relevant injector selecting switch; (iv) specifying the injector with the failure current passed through the current detector (35, R<SB>WHF</SB>) as the individual short-circuited fuel injector; and (v) generating a low-pressure side short circuit failure signal with respect to the specified fuel injector.
