APPROXIMATION TOUCHDOWN DETECTION METHOD, HEAD FLOATING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT METHOD, AND DISK DRIVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an approximation touchdown detection method for a disk drive, for detecting a head floating state immediately before a touchdown to a disk. SOLUTION: The approximation touchdown detection method includes: a step of detecting a change amount of head movement to a disk track direction, while a head floating height over a rotating disk is varied; and a step of deciding that the head reaches a floating height close to the touchdown when the detected change amount of the head movement to the disk track direction exceeds a threshold.
