PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform separation operation of an inserting/extracting optical element without interference with another peripheral member with a simple and inexpensive constitution, in a lens barrel including the inserting/extracting optical element movable to an insertion position on the optical axis and an separation position in the radial direction. SOLUTION: The lens barrel is equipped with: advancing/retreating member moving in the optical axis direction backward when being changed from a photographing state into a storing state; an inserting/extracting operation member 6 supported so as to be able to move the inserting/extracting optical element LG2 to the insertion position and the separation position with respect to the advancing/retreating member, and supported movably to an approaching position and a separation position with respect to another supported member supported by the advancing/retreating member; an inserting/extracting control mechanism 40 for holding the inserting/extracting operation member 6 on an insertion position in the photographing state, and moving the inserting/extracting operation member 6 from the insertion position to the separation position by movement to the optical axis direction backward of the advancing/retreating member when being put into the storing state; and axial direction position control mechanisms 38, 44, 46 for positioning the inserting/extracting operation member 6 on the approaching position to the supported member when being located on the insertion position, and moving it to the separation position from the supported member by movement from the insertion position to the separation position.
