PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for ensuring seamless handoff for a mobile station between wireless access networks having different wireless interfaces during a period of the wireless packet data service operation. SOLUTION: Location information is provided to an Access Terminal (AT) when an Access Network (AN) is unable to contact a last serving PDSN or the previous location information is maintained. AN elements within an area supported by a Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) are given the same Access Network ID (ANID). In this way, movement of the AT within the area supported by the PDSN never initiates location information update. The AT receives the location information specific to the PDSN and not the AN.
