PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device capable of improving a degree of freedom of a layout inside the device. SOLUTION: In this sheet carrying device 1, a holder member 30 is displaced to a paper feeding position for sending out a sheet 99 and a retreat position of not sending out the sheet 99. A paper feeding roller 60 is rotatably supported by the rotary shaft 35 of the holder member 30, and sends out the sheet while being driven by a driving shaft 91 while abutting on the uppermost surface of the sheet 99 on a placing surface 6C when displaced to the paper feeding position together with the holder member 30, and separates from the uppermost surface of the sheet 99 when displaced to the retreat position together with the holder member 30. A separation roller 70 is integrally rotatably arranged on the driving shaft 91, and separates the sheet sent out by the paper feeding roller 60 one by one. The holder member 30 includes a roller interval adjusting mechanism 41 for setting the interval D1 between the paper feeding roller 60 and the separation roller 70 at the retreat position, narrower than the interval D2 between the paper feeding roller 60 and the separation roller 70 at the paper feeding position.
