PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus 1 which shortens time required for calibration without dropping the precision of the results of execution of multiple pieces of calibration. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes: a second patch forming means 407 which makes an image forming means 406 form one patch pattern 600c for resist correction subsequent to a patch pattern 600a for bias correction, and also makes the image forming means 406 form the other patch pattern 600f for resist correction corresponding to a patch pattern 600e for skew correction; a background density obtaining means 411 which obtains a background density from a second background density acquisition area 600g in front of the other patch pattern 600f for resist correction; and a third patch forming means 409 which makes the image forming means 406 form a patch pattern 600h for density adjustment, which corresponds to the second background density acquisition area 600g, subsequent to the other patch pattern 600f for resist correction.
