PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve processing speed required when generating printing data from PDL data by using a plurality of arithmetic parts. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a reception part that receives the PDL data; an image processing part that has a plurality of arithmetic parts, and generates the printing data based on the PDL data by making each of the plurality of arithmetic parts carry out a task to perform processing in page units or a task to perform processing in band units; a controller that acquires the number of printed pages by analyzing the PDL data, and dynamically sets the number of arithmetic parts to be allotted to each of the task to perform processing in page units and the task to perform processing in band units in accordance with the acquired number of printed pages; and a printing part that forms an image on a printing medium based on the generated printing data.
