PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bulky animal hair spun yarn and a manufacturing method therefor which can form a lightweight bulky animal hair cloth which has a soft texture, sufficient heat insulating performance, excellent anti-pilling performance and machine-washable performance. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of a bulky animal hair spun yarn is the manufacturing method of a bulky animal hair spun yarn which comprises an oxidation treatment process, a reduction treatment process, and a bulky animal hair spun yarn manufacturing process. In the oxidation treatment process, scale-off animal hair fiber is manufactured by the oxidation treatment of the animal hair fiber. In the reduction treatment process, the reduction treatment of the scale-off animal hair fiber is performed by using a reducing agent solution heated to 45°C or more, and the reduction animal hair fiber is manufactured.
