<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of an external device and control the external device by means of a generic device driver even if the generic device driver does not have a power control function for the external device. <P>SOLUTION: In a host computer 1 connected to a printer 3 to be controlled, a filter driver 23 relays a command generated by operation of a POS application 21 or printer driver 22 functioning as a host program to the generic device driver 24 if the command is a specific command or, if not, sends a dummy response to the command to the host program and, when the specific command is not sent for a predetermined time or longer, uses the function of a power control module 26 to cause the printer 3 to enter a power saving state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
