<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master cylinder with the reduced number of part items and improved manufacturing efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A check valve opening when a pressure in a pressure chamber is lower than a pressure in a reservoir is interposed on a bypass passage 60 communicating between the reservoir and the pressure chamber while bypassing a feeding passage. This check valve includes a cup seal 95 with an annular base portion 96 and lip portions 97, 98 extending from the base portion 96. The bypass passage 60 has a hole 81 formed on the opposite side of the extending direction of the lip portions 97, 98 with respect to the base portion 96 of the cup seal 95.
