<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass preform for press forming from which a high-quality glass optical element can be obtained by precision press forming. <P>SOLUTION: The glass preform for press forming has a core part comprising optical glass and a silicon oxide film of <15 nm thickness covering at least a portion of the core part serving as an optically functional surface, and a surface free energy of the glass preform measured by a three-liquid method is≤75 mJ/m<SP>2</SP>. There is also provided a method for producing a glass preform for press forming having a core part comprising optical glass and a silicon oxide film of <15 nm thickness covering at least a portion of the core part serving as an optically functional surface, wherein the silicon oxide film is formed on the portion of the core part by film deposition processing using a film deposition material comprising SiO<SB>2</SB>in a mixed gas atmosphere of an inert gas and oxygen having an oxygen content of 5 to <20 vol.%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
