The device has a roller (1) rotatably mounted around an axis (A) and including bars (2). A control drive (4) is connected with a bar shifting unit (3) by a connecting device (5) i.e. lever, to adjust the drive with respect to adjustment of the unit such that a material web lying on the bars is shifted towards the axis. The connecting device makes adjustments of the control drive and the shifting unit with each other in a certain ratio that is variably adjusted. The connecting device adjusts the unit with respect to pivoting around a pivot axis (D) relative to a fixed part (10).
