In a swivel joint for interconnecting sections of a fluid conduit comprising complementary swivel members 10, 11 each with an axial fluid passage therethrough and joined together in end-to-end coaxial alignment with fluid sealing means therebetween, the members are joined together for swivelling by means permitting a limited range of axial separation thereof, and the fluid sealing means are arranged to maintain a fluid tight joint between the members throughout the range of separation. Clamping means are provided for selectably clamping together the members against axial separation for preventing swivelling, the arrangement being such as to perfect an additional fluid seal between the members when the members are so clamped together. As shown, elbow pieces 10, 11 are formed with the members 12, 13 the member 12 having a recess 14 for reception of the member 13 and being provided with an annular shoulder 15 engaged by a frusto-conical, flexible, metal flange 16 integral with the member 13. A flanged nut 17 screwed on to the member 13 prevents relative rotational movement of the members. The members are coupled by a wire or balls 20 co-operating with grooves 21, 22 in the members, the groove 21 being such as to allow limited axial separation of the members when the nut 17 is loosened for angular adjustment of the members. In modifications, (a) the member 13 has a rigid end face which engages with the shoulder 15, and a peripheral groove housing an 0-ring which seals against the recess 14, and (b) the seal between the members is provided by a metal ring 30 having opposed, frusto-conical, flexible flanges 31, 32.</p> |
